Empirical Labs Distressor EL-8

A modern classic! The Emprical Labs Distressor is the absolute first compressor you should buy for your rack. With a frequency response of 2 hz - 160 khz (+0, -3db), the Distressor is capable of a very clean sound or a very colored sound through the use of some very innovative technology.It gets its name from its feature of incorporating harmonic DISTortion with a classic knee compRESSOR. The Distortion modes allow the user to add 2nd or 3rd order harmonic distortion to the signal, emulating tape saturation and the classic tube compressor sound of the '60's and '70's. The Distressor is also available with the optional "british mode" mod which emulates the all four buttons in setting of the Urei 1176.

The Lil FrEQ is effectively one EQ that can take care of all your frequency contouring needs. It offers colored low frequency shaping, smooth shelving, and four bands of surgical parametric EQ. It also offers a dynamic EQ section that combines filters with a compressor-like circuit to help control excessive sibilants, etc. The LilFrEQ is to EQ what the Distressor is to compression.
